Your question was: Anyone have this problem on match.com?.
I think that anytime that it is family you need to seriously rethink the idea. I do not care if it was a fourth or fifth cousin, that is still blood related and that is just taboo. ..
I dated a man briefly that I was related to in a very very distant fashion - his great grandmother and my great grandmother were cousins. Technically related but barely. He was a jerk anyway so I didn't go out with him more than a couple of times.
A Third cousin is just a little too close for comfort for me.

What is "accepted"/"acceptable" is culturally determined. if your in a western culture then people will think it's gross...
I think every state has a different law about marrying cousins - not clear on that though. However, bottom line is that if he is your third cousin, you have your great-great-grandparents in common. May be a little too close for comfort. Definitely check your state's consanguinity laws and also, should you marry and decide to ever have any children, you would need to meet with a genetics counselor...
Third cousins seems far enough removed to me not to worry unduly but admittedly I've done no research on the subject!.
