I just steam mine for about seven minutes, or until the stalks area little flimsy. best way to check, bite into one ...
Wash carefully and snap off the tips (you want to allow the stem to bend and snap off where it will; that gives you the most tender service) and discard the woody stems. take a baking pan and spray VERY VERY LIGHTLY with olive oil spray. Spread the asparagus out in a single layer and lightly spray with the olive oil spray. Sprinkle lightly with some sort of seasoned salt (my preference). Roast on 425 until lightly browned. I'd give a time, but the variables are so many that it would be useless..
VERY VERY good way to eat the blissful asparaguts...
Roasting (as above) or boiling both work great..
Boil water, throw in some salt and toss in the prepped stalks. Boil for about 5 minutes drain and serve. ICBINB spray is my fav. Haven't tried Molly McButter yet.....
I cut mine up after it is cooked so I can measure it easier...
I have asparagus at least 1-2 times a week. I prepare the stalks as described above, but I saute' them in the spray and some (jarred) minced garlic and a little seasoning salt. I put the lid on it and saute' for just a few minutes until al dente'...
I do what Jeni does, but I stir fry it on medium high heat in a pan..
My method:.
* Do what Jeni does, (I add garlic salt and some Greek seasoning.) Saute for a couple of minutes..
* Add 1/4-1/2 cup water. Cover..
* Steam til stalks brighten in color, roughly about 4 minutes. Don't overcook. Overcooked asparagus is bleah...
I love asparagus and eat it often. My favorite way is on the grill (prepared just like you are roasting but do it on the grill). Of course this is only when the weather is nice. Last night I just snapped of the ends and placed in the microwave for 3 minutes sprinkled with seasoned salt and a little butter spray (0 cals).mmmmmm..
Thank you all for your suggestions! I ended up stir frying them a bit with some garlic powder and leaving it just a bit crisp for some crunch. They were great and I'll definitely have to add this into my veggie rotation...
I blanch it for about 30 seconds in boiling water, then spray it with Olive Oil Pam, and salt and pepper it real well and toss it on the George Forman grill for a few minutes. It stays crunchy and is really tasty like this. One of my favorite restaurants makes it this way and serves it with a grilled salmon salad, which I've figured out how to do legally on MF..
Try it and hope you will enjoy!.
Cindy..
I grill it like cidtref does, and add a sprinkle of 2% Parmesan cheese afterward. vbmenu_register("postmenu_110517", true);..
I steam mine with low sodium fat free chicken broth (I use either Healthy Valley or College Inn)....Nothing fancy, just delish!..
I have never fixed fresh. I always buy the canned and just heat it up, lol...
I buy Del Monte canned and just warm up....they are always tender..
