I had read in a science magazine that you should not drink over 100oz per day. I asked Nutrisystem that when I started Medifast and they confirmed that 100oz was the upper limit (although if you were running a race in the desert, the limit might change). That was more than a year ago, but I know there have been some threads about this - particularly one about getting water intoxication and confirmation from several here that are in a medical profession that people have died from drinking too much water - you might want to do a search to see the previous threads...
Another factor is too much too quickly. Those who have had problems have downed a whole bunch too fast and that causes the problem. 64oz is a minimum and if we space it out through the day we shouldn't have any problems drinking more (as long as it is not to the toxicity level). With my coffee and decaf tea I think I often have slightly more than 100 but it is spaced out all day long...
Although I am a newbie, prior to this plan I drink probably at least 80oz a day. Like Mission I drink this amount throught my day and did not incorporate all that water at one time. I gradually increased as I stopped drinking soda and other beverages. It is easy to drink this amount since I really don't drink anything else(except the occasional juice; pre-MF of course)...
I drink 64-80 oz. of plain water throughout the day plus a couple cups of coffee in the morning and a diet soda every once and again. This is spaced out from 5:30 am to 11 pm. I think that once the mandatory 64 oz is out of the way then you should just go with your thirst level...
I drink about 150-180oz throughout the day. I have always done this, not just since starting MF. I don't force it, I just drink when I'm thirsty. I would say, get your 64oz in, if you're still thirsty, keep drinking. Just don't do it all at once!..
I drink between 80 and 128 oz a day. I also space it throughout the day with no problems.........
