Your question was: Match.com or eHarmony?.
I hate going to a theater so that would not be my choice. I do like going to dinner and esp to restaurants I have not been to. Maybe you could pick one that neither of you have been to, it would be a first for both of you. Then maybe to a local pub for a few drinks?.
He asked what you wanted to do so yes it's ok for you to make the choice..
Have fun and let us know what you did and how it went..

If this is your first date, a movie is a really bad idea, no time to talk. Since he ask, yes please state your preference but say that you are open to ideas. I would suggest something that would involve a lot of interaction..

It's a joint date using Match.com - two of you involved. Both of you should make decisions about what to do. A movie's ok but there should be also a portion of the date using Match.com where the two of you can sit and talk somewhere..
.
Or do an activity - dancing, something outdoors, take advantage of the summer! But definitely the two of you should make decisions together..

Movies on the first date using Match.com can work out..if one or the both of you are shy then it definitely gives you something to start conversation with during dinner or drinks. and yes, you should havea say in what you want to do with your evening...
I agree, a movie is a good dinner conversation starter. My first date using Match.com with my guy was dinner and a movie (YES HOW BORING!) but it was an awesome date. Just make sure you do the movie first...
