If you have a Longs or Walgreens drug store nearby, some of them carry Medifast diabetic shakes and bars.
They are a bit lower in vitamins than the ones we order, but otherwise pretty similar. I have used them in a pinch while waiting for my orders!..
Just stick with low carb, high protein and you'll be just fine...
I have read to have 8 oz of skim milk instead of a supplement if you run out...
Get lots of veggies: celery, green pepper, lettuce and get your protein portions in. Search or ask Nutrisystem and they will give you some feedback too. Stick with it!..
I think the 8oz of skim milk mentioned as a replacement is somewhere in the Quick Start guide. I also use the South Beach High Protein cereal bars instead of Medifast bars on a daily basis because they're nutrition content is fairly similar (but cals are lower and carbs are a lot lower). I agree with the veggies and the lower carb options. Good luck! Hope your order arrives soon!..
Farrell,.
I see your weight loss is great & you've been using SB bars? You don't think they've hindered you in anyway? Have you done this the entire time? I'm thinking of trying this if it works for you...
I like the idea of the SB bars also. They are much cheaper. Has it worked ok for you Farrell?..
I hate the cost of Medifast procucts...but the nutrition within them is not available over the counter. So, we're paying for quality...and our good health is priceless..
Be careful with the SB substitutions...only because Medifast products are formulated to work with only other Medifast products. I've tried to substitute in the past and it actually caused me to plateau..
I've never run out of Medifast yet, but if I did, I'd do exactly what the handbook says...and go with the skim milk instead. Its high in protien and low in fat/sugar. I've read that consuming a diet containing 1,000 to 1,400 milligrams per day of calcium from dairy foods changed the way the body burned fat; it actually increased fat metabolism..
You could even blend the milk with ice and almond extract!!!.
Good luck and I totally admire you for being so determined to stay on MF!..
I got myself a health advisor and she advises me when I need to order. You should consider that...
