Your question was: Nutrisystem Dessert substitutions other than ice cream bars?.
Snickers Marathon Nutrition Bars make sure it is the Nutrition Bar and not the Energy or other types. They have approx 150 cals and 11g of protein better than many of the Nutrisystem desserts. They come in 2 flavors - chocolate and honey almond. You can find them in Wal-mart and some drug stores with the diet food/nutrition bars...
Also, here are the average ranges of the Nutrisystem desserts. You can take these and try to match them to labels in the store..
Calorie Range: 110 to 180.
Calorie Average: 146.3.
Fat Range: 1.5 g to 9 g.
Carb Range: 5g to 25g.
Protein Range: 5g to 12g.
Sodium Range: 20mg to 340mg.
I did some research the other night, and I found a couple of items that fit these (maybe minus a Protien gram, if I remember correctly) - Dannon Fruit on the Bottom, Yoplait Whipped Choc Mousse, and some of the Kashi Trail Mix bars..
Flex program has you do a protein serving and a carb serving for women's basic. Hungry Girl has a great recipe in their 200 under 200 cookbook for FF ricotta mixed with half a vanilla SF jello pudding cup, cocoa powder, vanilla and FF cool whip for a yummy tiramisu dessert.
South Beach protein fit bars also fall in the range. The key is to read packaging at the store if by something, or get a nice cookbook that gives you nutrition info to compare...
Do you use the plain or vanilla? Blend the strawaberries in??..
I use the PLAIN, and blend the strawberries in...a little Splenda, top with Cool Whip. Incredible!..
Thanks Pam..
I have done that with other yogurt and topped it with NSA cherry pie filling. It is good. Will look for Siggi.
Another I like for dessert is a vanilla or plain yogurt with a tbl. of Pistachio pudding mixed in with a serving of pineapple. I add splenda if use plain yogurt. Similar to watergate salad...
I made that after you suggested it, Birdie...OMG, amazing!..
Pam, do you have other examples of low gi carbs that you like besides those listed in the Nutrisystem meal planner?..
Cool....never paid any attention to the Marathon bars. I just figured they were just another sugary energy bar, but I see they have Nutrition out now. I'll look for it and tell my mom. She's been trying to do a make shift version of Nutrisystem and needed tips on better dessert choices. I think she said she had been doing the 100 cal. ice cream cups. The Nutrition bars may have more calories, but sounds like an all around better choice than the regular ice cream...
1/4 c. No Pudge Fudge Brownie mix with 1, or a bit more, tbsp of ff plain yogurt, 1 tbsp of choc. baking powder and a bit of cinnamon. Nuke it for about 1 minute - and you have a really good choc. dessert. Serve warm with some berries and ff Reddi Whip - yummy..
Lynn - I don't even own stock in the stuff, but love it!.
And the black mini poodles..
