For his birthday, perhaps a card and a CD of his favorite artist, and for Christmas, maybe a nice humidor for his cigars?.
You could also try posting this to our Guy Talk board to get more advice there, since there are a few men who hang out there regularly and should be able to provide some more suggestions for you..
Our Christmas board is another great place to get ideas..

My XH was a gadget FREAK. Nothing said ILY more than a remote control car or a new cell phone! He was fussy with clothing and didnt wear jewelry so I always had the problem of what to pick in the electronics store as it was all welcomed by the biggest kid God put breath into.SB.

The "guy" present I've had the most success with over the years has been a credit-card case or wallet. My brother liked the credit-card case because it is useful. My long-ago ex-boyfriend liked that I had his initials stamped on the leather of the wallet. My ex-husband liked that I looked for features in the cordura wallet that he liked. The thing about a credit card case or wallet is that it is something that the guy has to keep with him at all times. And you can individualize it by choosing one that you think will appeal to him (perhaps with the logo of a sports team) or even his initials. If I were in your shoes, I'd get a nice card case with his initials stamped on it and I might throw in a gift card to something like Best Buy if I was trying to give him a more expensive present than just the card case. For the other present I might go with something to eat. Either I would bake something and package it cleverly (maybe throw in a bottle of wine and/or a CD you know he'll like) or I might order a food gift basket that would take into account his tastes.
(The trick is always to pick something you know the guy will enjoy.)Just my two cents...
