I know exactly how you feel. It's happened to me a few times before. The way I deal with it is I dont make any moves unless they have really showed signs  that they like. For instance, dont ask him out first, let him ask you out. That way you will find out if he feels the same way that you feel about him. Take care...

I wouldn't feel stupid.   But I tend to take risks when it comes to the heart.  I;m not afraid of rejection.  I'd rather go for it and say what I want and feel rather than have regret. ..

I dont see the shame in what you did.  You covered yourself pretty good.  Now that he knows you were going to ask him to join you and your friends for a drink the ball is in his court.  If he is interested he'll let you know...

You shouldn't feel stupid at all.  Hang in there today and keep your cool.  It's not like you asked him out on a date.  You asked him to hange with you and your friends.  And maybe his plans came up after the two of you had spoken.  Going out on the spur of the moment can be fun..
